The aim of this project is to address the challenges posed by new dimensions of trade and increasing uncertainty in global markets on the organisation of firm-level production processes. We will emphasise the role of firm organisation in the transmission of international shocks. Specifically, we will focus on the transmission of shocks within multi-product firms and the differences in shock transmission between exporters and multinationals. Additionally, we will explore how firms should optimally adjust their organisation in response to increased perceived risk and uncertainty. In this context, particular emphasis will be placed on the restructuring of product lines in multi-product firms and changes in the mode of foreign market entry. This project will contribute new theoretical insights into shock transmissions within firms, alongside empirical and quantitative analyses of the significance of the identified theoretical mechanisms. As part of the newly founded Research Unit IDoL, this research will benefit from significant synergies with other projects within the unit. Specifically, it will gain valuable insights from the projects "Global Value Chains", "Superstar Firms", and "Innovation and Technology". Additionally, the "Infrastructure" project will provide crucial input by collecting new data on "de facto" tariffs and offering support in data management.
