In project B12, we will apply our tight-binding techniques TITAN and EVOLVE to explore laser-induced ultrafast magnetization dynamics in ferromagnets, antiferromagnets, and altermagnets. With TITAN, we will investigate intra-orbital noncollinearity and light-induced torques as mechanisms for all-optical magnetization switching. A key goal is to identify laser pulse parameters that enable deterministic control of magnetic states in various materials. Using EVOLVE, we will study spin and orbital angular momentum transport through inhomogeneous structures, such as interfaces or systems with defects. Special attention will be given to the orbital angular momentum—its generation, propagation, and coupling to spin dynamics.
