The development of the ability to recognize words is variable in infancy. The project employs eye-tracking experiments and computational modeling with monolingual and bilingual babies to investigate whether differences in cognitive skills (e.g., visual attention) can contribute to explaining this variability. Bayesian inference of dynamic cognitive models on individual experimental data of gaze dynamics during word recognition will enable us to identify relevant cognitive processes and factors for interpreting infant studies.
