A04 will comparatively analyze the dynamics of the (de)institutionalization of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion (DEI) policies at four public universities in Germany, Luxembourg, and the U.S. The case studies aim to uncover the logics, levels, and policies of inclusion and recognition as well as social and educational justice within the broader context of excellence-driven, meritocratic higher education and address the pressing of societal crisis of integration and legitimacy. By examining the interplay of institutional, organizational, and individual levels, different types of the institutionalization of DEI policies will show how these form participation and belonging.
