Nitric oxide (NO) is an important tirgger for various cellular processes, but with a short lifetime of several seconds due to the high reactivity. Controlled release of NO is therefore crucial to understand the triggered response in cellular environments. Wang (A07) proposes to exploring novel photocatalytic strategies for spatiotemporally controlled NO release with visible light, in which the NO donors will be activated via electron transfer, energy transfer, or photon upconversion by a photosensitiser. These will be used for collaborative studies analysing NO-triggered cellular signaling processes.
