Project Details
Nuclear envelope insertion of the yeast centrosome (B07)
Subject Area
Cell Biology

Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5485988
The spindle pole body (SPB) of budding yeast is the functional equivalent of the mammalian centrosome. During the duplication process the newly formed SPB becomes inserted into the double membrane of the nuclear envelope in a morphologically similar manner as the nuclear pore complex (NPC). The conserved integral membrane protein Ndc1 functions in both the insertion of the SPB into the nuclear membrane and the assembly of NPCs. This proposal compares the role of Ndc1 in the biogenesis of SPBs and NPCs.
