interfacial dynamics of polymers in interaction with solid substrates

Subject Area Preparatory and Physical Chemistry of Polymers
Term from 2008 to 2015
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 68031971

The newly developed nano-structured electrodes enable us to measure directly the molecular dynamics in the interface between a solid and a polymer. Based on our findings in the previous application period, it is planned to extend the measurements down to thicknesses of mono- and sub-molecular layers of polymers like poly(styrene), poly(methyl methacrylate), poly(2-vinylpyridine), and poly(vinyl-acetate). Special emphasis will be given to modification of the interaction between the solid surface and the polymer. In this respect studies on polyisoprene having two dielectrically active relaxation processes taking place at two different length scales are of importance. Additionally grafted systems, like siloxanes of varying molecular weight are envisaged. The project is strongly engaged in manifold collaborations within the SPP 1369, which deal also with polymers contained in nano-porous systems.
