Central project

Subject Area Plant Physiology
Term from 2008 to 2016
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 61498647

This research group will focus on the analysis of processes involved and governing the dynamic storage functions of plant vacuoles during cold and osmotic stress. Since we represent a dislocated consortium of researchers the central service project has to provide plant material grown under highly controlled conditions and genetic material. Moreover, the central project will support all groups with various types of plant samples required for their individual projects. In addition, the laboratory in Kaiserslautern is well equipped with analytical devices allowing identification and quantification of all solutes with relevance to the consortium, e.g. primary metabolites like sugars, amino acids, low abundant metabolites and nutrients like nitrate, sulphate, phosphate and all metals (via ICAP). We apply for a half time position for a technician (E6/2) who will be responsible for plant growth under controlled conditions, for mutant plant propagation and crossing (including the required genetic analysis), for sample preparation and solute quantification, as well as for vacuole purification and subsequent membrane preparation. Support for central coordination costs is required for (i) upcoming regular biannual scientific meetings, (ii) exchange of co-workers among the participating laboratories with respect to running experiments, (iii) financing of at least two workshops, (iv) microarray analyses, (v) planning and organisation of an international scientific meeting, (vi) travel money for the whole research group and (vii) publication costs.
