Photoionization and Dissoziative Photoionization of Reactive Molecules Using Synchrotron Radiation
Final Report Abstract
In this project we investigated the photoionization and dissociative photoionization of reactive intermediates, in particular of species containing nitrogen atoms. Synchrotron radiation in the VUV regime was employed, in addition one subproject used soft X-ray radiation. Almost all experiments suggested in the proposal were conducted successfully. In addition several experiments were carried out that were not described in the proposal. Ionization and appearance energies were determined for a number of reactive species. Such data are particularly important for combustion science, because reactive intermediates in flames are monitored by photoionization using tunable radiation. For c-C3H2 we measured absolute photoionization cross sections, which will permit to determine absolute concentrations of the molecule in flames and other reactive environments. In our HNCO experiments we furthermore demonstrated that synchrotron radiation studies are also indispensable to understand time-resolved experiments at free electron lasers. To summarize, the project was highly successful and all goals were accomplished.
