Optical supercontinuum has many uses. Currently it is typically produced by passing short light pulses through a piece of holey fiber. This proposal suggests to use a feedback arrangement, i.e. a fiber resonator, to enhance the effect and exploit optical self-organization as a means to provide additional optimization degrees of freedom, and to reduce power requirements. A proof-of-principle experiment has successfully demonstrated the merit of this approach. Now systematic experiments and numerical studies are required to optimize working conditions, to advance understanding of parameter dependencies, and to improve the spectrum.
