We plan to use a combination of synthesis and sophisticated mass-spectrometric techniques to gain experimental insight into the mechanisms of SOMO organocatalysis, a fascinating reaction type connecting closed-shell enamine chemistry and organic radical reactions. Additionally we wish to continue studying a copper-catalyzed THIQ functionalization and use the derived knowledge to develop an innovative synergetic catalysis based on radical C-H activation combined with organocatalytic enamine coupling. Finally, we want to perform single-electron reductions of metallo-supramolecular aggregates and host-guest complexes in the gas phase to study the effect of metal or ligand oxidation state on the binding situation, electron per electron.
