Ultracold quantum gases in optical lattices - Structure and excitations beyond the mean-field approximation (C06)

Subject Area Optics, Quantum Optics and Physics of Atoms, Molecules and Plasmas
Term from 2011 to 2015
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 170620586

Project C6 investigates ultracold quantum gases with different components (spin and species) from a theoretical perspective, using a synthesis of exact numerical and analytical field theoretical approaches. In particular, we address the role of high energy degrees of freedom for the dynamics of systems driven through phase boundaries (collaboration with C1, C4, B2, B5), the time evolution of correlations in systems with different masses of the components in view of the analogy to Kondo- and RKKY-correlations (collaboration with C2, C3, B5), the long-time many-particle decay of meta-stable states (collaboration with B3, A1, A2, A3, A5), and the decoherence of the many-particle wave function during a double-quench across the phase boundary (collaboration with C1 and C4).
