The project addresses the expertise of teachers with a focus on their analytical competency ( Deutungskompetenz ) with regard to instructional situations and different learning prerequisites. The major research question of the project is how computer-supported casebased learning environments can facilitate the acquisition of analytical competencies by teachers. Analytical competencies are based on knowledge of the processes of learning and instruction. They include the teachers ability to take on different perspectives and systematically apply conceptual knowledge in the analysis of instructional situations. The use of computer-supported case-based learning environments is regarded as a promising way to facilitate the acquisition of analytical competencies. In this project, we conduct a quasiexperimental study to improve our understanding of how case-based learning can be promoted using digital media. As part of the experimental study, we examine different forms of computer-supported case-based learning environments - with multiple perspectives, with hyperlinks to conceptual knowledge and with a combination of both - in relation to different learning prerequisites. The study will be conducted in the field of adult education teachers continuing education.
