Regulation and function of 15-lipoxygenase-2 (B04)

Macrophages sense their microenvironment by changing their lipidome that, at least in part, is determined by lipoxygenases (ALOX). Following our work towards ALOX5 and ALOX15, pilot data now suggest a link between ALOX15B, the SREBP2 (sterol response-element binding protein 2) activity, and cholesterol metabo-lism. We aim at understanding molecular details of this interaction and explore functional consequences towards anti-viral and anti-bacterial macrophage responses. In addition, we have generated global and conditional ALOX8 knockout mice (murine ALOX8 corresponds to human ALOX15B), which will be characterised with regard to inflammation and tumour progression during the project.
