Computational models for analysing the impact of electric fields on intracellular and intercellular processes at different spatio-temporal scales (A01)

Subject Area Image and Language Processing, Computer Graphics and Visualisation, Human Computer Interaction, Ubiquitous and Wearable Computing
Bioinformatics and Theoretical Biology
Term since 2017
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 299150580

This project aims to obtain a better understanding of cell-biological responses to electrical stimulation to further the development and therapeutic applications of electrically active implants. Various in silico studies will be conducted to analyse the impact of electrical stimulation on cell-membrane dynamics, intra-cellular signalling pathways, and cell-cell communication as well as on cellular functions such as differentiation. For this, single cell models established in the first funding period will be extended and new models will be created. Methodological research will also be continued, for example, for collecting and exploiting the provenance of simulation models. This will contribute to the consistency and traceability of studies and will also facilitate conducting new ones.
