A4 will carry out spatially and temporally highly resolved LB simulations. A joint LB solver for Direct Numerical Simulation will be developed. Due to the enormous numerical costs, the project will concentrate on granular assemblies with a small number of particles. Starting point will be the simulation of static monodisperse packed beds of spherical particles, followed with assemblies of slowly moving spherical particles and simplified gas-phase reaction mechanisms. Finally, non-spherical particles will be addressed and detailed reaction mechanisms will be employed. Parameter variations will allow to identify the dominating processes. Based on the results obtained and on a derived combustion diagram, reduced reactor models based on tabulated chemistry will be produced for the reaction in the gas phase among the particles for DEM/CFD system simulations.
