The subproject C1 develops generic methods for environment modeling and localization of mobile companion-system. The interpretation of the environment model which incorporates all dynamic objects facilitates the adaptation of the companion-system to the current situation. The research activities focus on algorithms for automatic adaptation of the computational complexity to the environmental situation and on multi sensor fusion systems for extended objects (i.e., objects whose extent may not be neglected for a given sensor resolution). Further, a new approach for self-localization will be developed which enables an efficient computation as well as an accurate representation of arbitrarily shaped landmarks.
