Constraint on Tien Shan structure and dynamics from integrative modelling of new satellite gravity-, GNSS-, SAR- and seismic data

Subject Area Geophysics and Geodesy
Term from 2009 to 2011
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 111515381

The main goal of the proposed study is construction of an integrated model of Central Tien Shan, which is based on a joint analysis of the gravity, geodetic and other geophysical data. A comprehensive background for this study is provided by the 1st stage of the project. The obtained model should open a way for understanding of the ongoing tectonic processes forming this structure. In particularly, a new density model of the crust and upper mantle will be obtained in a joint inversion of the gravity field (including the GOCE data) and the new seismic data. Next, we are going to construct a rheological model of the lithosphere, which will be employed for analysis of surface deformations and stresses within the lithosphere. Real surface deformations will be derived using modern Differential SAR Interferometry (DInSAR) techniques. The first stage of the project provided a high quality DInSAR treatment chain and shows the capability to extract a deformation signal despite the highly variable topography in the area. We are going to implement recent DInSAR techniques that allow to derive highresolution surface deformation model over the Tien-Shan region. For this, we will focus on the modelisation of different decorrelation sources in order to increase the quality of interferograms. This derived deformation model will be analysed together with surface deformation model given by a rheological model, which enables us to develop a reliable model of the Tien Shan evolution.
