In the previous funding periods Project Z1 provided support in three areas: (I) bioinformatics, (II) structural biology (protein production, crystallisation and structure analysis), and (III) proteomics (yeast two-hybrid screening, mass spectrometry). Activities regarding confocal microscopy were bundled in the newly formed Optical Imaging Centre Erlangen (OICE). These support areas will be equally continued. In addition, fragment screening by X-ray crystallography techniques will be included in the next funding period.
