The work on the finite element based multicriteria numerical optimization of geotechnical constructions (FEMNOG) has been very successful as the recent report has shown. The optimization algorithms were modified and applied to geotechnical tasks; see e.g. Grabe et al. [5, 6], Pucker and Grabe [11, 12]. The further research program had to be modified as the experience has shown that the objective function economical feasibility and construction time can hardly be captured in a realistic way. For the reason, the objective functions were customized in order to consider the settlements of foundations and their loading capacity. The research schedule is additionally extended with model experiments in phase 5. The experiments will be used to validate the numerical results qualitatively. Therefore, model experiments with numerically optimized topologies are compared to experiments with standard shallow foundations to point out the potential of the numerical algorithms. In Phase 6, the results of the numerical simulations and the model experiments are used to develop new innovative foundation structures.
