GRK 1621: Itineranter Magnetismus und Supraleitung in intermetallischen Verbindungen
Zusammenfassung der Projektergebnisse
Im Zentrum der Forschung des GRK 1621 stehen intermetallische Verbindungen, in denen spin- und ladungsbasierende Wechselwirkungskräfte zu den konkurrierenden Ordnungsphänomenen magnetischer Spindichtewellenordnung und Supraleitung führen. Eisenbasierte Supraleiter sind durch einen multiorbitalen Charakter der 3d-Elektronen geprägt. Grundsätzlich hat sich gezeigt, dass die elektronischen Zustände nicht als schwach korreliert gelten können. Die Stärke der lokalen Ladungskorrelationen im Vergleich zur Bandbreite ist von der konkreten Verbindung abhängig und kann sich sogar für verschiedene Orbitale innerhalb der 3d-Bänder unterscheiden. Aufgrund des multi-orbitalen Charakters hat die Hund‘sche Kopplung zwischen verschiedenen d-Orbitalen eines Atoms einen entscheidenden Einfluss. Im GRK 1621 beteiligt sind Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler der Technischen Universität Dresden und der vier Forschungseinrichtungen Leibnitz-Institut für Festkörper- und Werkstoffforschung (IFW) Dresden, Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR), sowie der Max-Planck-Instituten für Chemische Physik fester Stoffe (MPI-CPfS) und Physik komplexer Systeme (MPI-PKS). Zunächst wurden die Eisen-Pniktide und Eisen-Chalkogenide erforscht. Im Kolleg wurden u.A. erstmalig Einkristalle der LaFeAsO mit Co-Dotierung gezüchtet und detaillierte elektronische Phasendiagramme in mehreren Strukturvarianten der eisenbasierten Supraleiter experimentell bestimmt. In der ersten Förderphase wurde in diesen Systemen die elektronische nematische Ordnung als neuartige spontane Symmetriebrechung, die direkt an die Kristallgittersymmetrie ankoppelt, identifiziert und intensiv untersucht. In der zweiten Förderperiode wurden speziell hierfür uniaxiale Druckzellen entwickelt und eingesetzt. Uniaxialer Druck koppelt direkt an die elektronische nematische Ordnung und induziert eine explizite Symmetriebrechung. Bereits in der ersten Förderperiode wurden auch metallische Vergleichssysteme mit niedrigeren kritischeren Temperaturen der Supraleitung und ähnlich komplexen Fermiflächen, die Übergangsmetall-Chalkogenide, in die Untersuchungen einbezogen. Weiterhin wurden auch 4d und 5d-Systeme, Hybridsysteme mit alternierenden metallischen Fe- und Pt-Schichten und intermetallische Verbindungen mit 4f-Elementen, z.B. supraleitende multiorbitale Schwer-Fermionen-Systeme, untersucht. In der zweiten Förderperiode wurden die Aktivitäten im Bereich der 4d- und 5d-Systeme deutlich ausgebaut. So wurde z.B. die seit mehr als zwei Dekaden umstrittene Frage des supraleitenden Ordnungsparameters im Multiband-System Sr2RuO4 experimentell und theoretisch intensiv untersucht und weitestgehend geklärt. Damit wurden Supraleiter mit einem Zeitumkehrinvarianz-brechenden supraleitenden Ordnungsparameter ein neuer Schwerpunkt des Graduiertenkollegs. Die Ergebnisse des GRK 1621 sind in mindestens 7 Nature physics und Nature Communication und mehreren npj Quantum Materials Publikationen erschienen, insgesamt sind weit über 200 Publikationen des GRK 1621 erschienen. Damit konnte eine weltweit führende Stellung des Wissenschaftsstandorts Dresden auf diesem Forschungsgebiet gesichert werden. Für die Ausbildung der Doktorandinnen und Doktoranden wurden neue interdisziplinäre Vorlesungen und Tutorials entwickelt, in denen die Doktorandinnen und Doktoranden die relevanten experimentellen und theoretischen Methoden des Kollegs im Rahmen von „hands-on“-Praktika erlernen können.
