Federative Factory Data Management (FFDM) based on Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Semantic Model Description on XML and RDF for Manufacturing Products

Subject Area Engineering Design, Machine Elements, Product Development
Term from 2009 to 2014
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 138690695

Reduced time to market and more complex products challenge countries such as Brazil and Germany to develop flexible and adaptable production plants, and to improve the product design and production planning processes simultaneously. These requirements are essential, as the development gets more distributed and the supplier integration is not an easy task. Due an increasing use of multiple IT tools within product development and production planning, a distributed heterogeneous IT-landscape is growing, which affects all processes and leads to financial risks. Regarding this and to achieve these improvements, not only the current production technology must be advanced, but also in particular the data integration through different process steps along the whole product life cycle must be improved. Thereby, the focus of this project is a federative factory data management based on the Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and a semantic model description. Defining a semantic information model as a common communication and integration foundation, syntactic and semantic heterogeneities of all involved domain specific application and multiple source systems can be accomplished. A federative factory data management based on this semantic information model builds a foundation for acquisition and propagation of information and knowledge through the whole process. This integrative approach should harmonize interdisciplinary models from product development and production planning as well as to standardize coordination and communication between teams and their applications.
