Synthesis, characterization and theoretical description of metastable transition metal oxides and oxide nitrides

Subject Area Solid State and Surface Chemistry, Material Synthesis
Term from 2009 to 2017
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 140843865

The aim of this project is the development of optimized synthesis routes to metastable oxides and oxide nitrides of vanadium, niobium, tantalum, chromium, molybdenum, and tungsten. In addition, we want to obtain a fundamental understanding of the processes during genesis of the metastable phases and their transformation to thermodynamically stable polymorphs. The cooperation of all our groups, working in complementary fields, is of real importance. During the project we intend to optimize the synthesis routes by increasing feedback between in situ characterization, theory, and preparation. Finally, a knowledge-based concept for the synthesis of metastable oxides and oxide nitrides should be developed, leading to novel materials with interesting physical properties.
