Theoretical and exploration of the phase space of the system Cr-Sb and Cr-Sb-Te

Subject Area Solid State and Surface Chemistry, Material Synthesis
Term from 2009 to 2017
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 141354659

Within this common project new metastable crystalline Chromium-Antimony compounds will be synthesized using various preparation techniques and characterized comprehensively concerning their crystallographic, electrical and magnetic properties. The elements will be deposited on an inert substrate either by the layer-by-layer or co-deposition method and brought to reaction by a well-defined temperature treatment. The reaction will be followed and studied in a temperature and time resolved way by in-situ X-ray diffraction and edge spectroscopy. This experimental work will be supported by corresponding theoretical investigations, using a broad spectrum of modern tools. This way the theoretical work should explain the special characteristics of the Cr-Sb phase diagram and give hints to the existence and the realizability of new metastable phases. Furthermore, they should allow for a detailed interpretation of the experimental results by calculating the various spectroscopic and physical properties.
