The effect of AMP-activated protein kinase on endothelial energy metabolism and the consequences for angiogenesis and signalling (A05)

Subject Area Anatomy and Physiology
Term from 2010 to 2021
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 75732319

The AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is an energy-sensing kinase that occupies a unique position as a regulator of metabolism and signalling. The AMPK augments endothelial glycolysis and mitochondrial function at the same time as inhibiting cholesterol and isoprene synthesis. The aims of this project are to identify novel endothelial targets of the AMPK that are involved in angiogenesis and endothelial cell energy metabolism as well as to identify novel interactions between metabolism and other signalling pathways that contribute to endothelial signalling and vascular repair.
