Kleintier-MRT

Subject Area Medicine
Term Funded in 2010
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 162532894

We aim to develop and apply novel techniques for quantitative, functional and molecular MR imaging for diagnosis and therapy control of neurological diseases (stroke, multiple sclerosis, brain tumors, neurodegenerative diseases, pathologies in peripheral nerves). For this purpose, a MR scanner with ultrahigh magnetic field is mandatory, particularly for specific morphologic imaging, as well as for functional, cellular and molecular MR imaging techniques. As diffusion MRI plays a major role in the research projects, a high performance gradient system is a key feature. Both applicants have long-standing experience in MRI of animals, various animal models, and in high-field MRI. Clinical collaboration partners provide profound neurobiological expertise and experience with rat and mice models of neurological diseases.
