Experimental Investigation and Modeling of Dynamic Recrystallization

Subject Area Thermodynamics and Kinetics as well as Properties of Phases and Microstructure of Materials
Term from 2010 to 2013
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 163599067

It is proposed to conduct an experimental and theoretical study of microstructure, texture, and flow stress evolution during dynamic recrystallization (DRX). The ex- perimental program will comprise high temperature mechanical testing combined with fast quenching to record the flow stress development and microstructure and texture evolution during early and advanced stages of recrystallization. In particu- lar, strain path changes will be carried out for revealing the mechanisms of dynamic recrystallization. The study will be accompanied by a mathematical modeling at- tempt on the basis of variational theory to develop a physics based DRX model with predictive power on flow stress behavior, initiation and steady state approach of DRX. The study will be carried out on copper and alloy 800H to further utilize previous reliable data.
