Within the Standard Model of particle physics, neutron decay can be described byonly three parameters. On the other hand, neutron decay offers a multitude ofobservables and the problem is thus strongly over-determined. Precisionmeasurements on neutron decay observables make it thus an ideal candidate in thesearch for physics beyond the standard model. To perform next generation high precision measurements, we propose in acollaborate effort among five research groups to build a new instrument called PERC.PERC will deliver not neutrons, but neutron decay products. It is intended to be aversatile instrument that can be used by different groups of scientists to makeprecision measurements on neutron decay observables to address variouscontemporary particle physics questions.Within PERC a supermirror coated neutron guide is used for the lateral confinementof the neutron decay volume. Supermirror coatings, available to day, are not optimalfor the application in PERC. With this proposal we request a grant for developing asupermirror coating, optimized for the special requirements of PERC.
