Project Details
Genome and population dynamics during chronic infection with Helicobacter pylori (A01)
Subject Area
Medical Microbiology and Mycology, Hygiene, Molecular Infection Biology
Term
from 2010 to 2022
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 158989968
Extensive genetic variability is a hallmark of the gastric carcinogenic pathogen Helicobacter pylori and contributes to its ability to adapt to individual human hosts. Using a combination of different high-throughput sequencing technologies with genetic and biochemical experimental approaches, this project aims at characterizing the dynamics of the evolution of the Helicobacter pylori genome during chronic infection, and to dissect the molecular mechanisms underlying the genetic diversification of this organism.
