Project Details
Immune mediators of cytomegalovirus latency (B02)
Subject Area
Virology
Term
from 2010 to 2022
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 158989968
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) causes significant disease upon reactivation from latency in the immunocompromised host. Therefore, studying the immune signaling pathways preventing virus reactivation may identify novel molecular targets for antiviral strategies in this population. This project studies latency at the cellular and at the molecular level. We aim to identify the in vivo cellular sites of CMV latency in animal models and in clinical samples. Moreover, in light of our data that interferon (IFN) signaling prevents the onset of the lytic cycle and induces viral latency, we will identify the key IFN-stimulated genes involved in this process and study the molecular mechanism by which they suppress CMV transcription.
