In the emerging field of quantum computing great effort is spent on the search and characterization of systems usable for quantum bits. Spin frustrated transition metal complexes based on triaminoguanidines are highly promising candidates since the C3-symmetry of the complex molecules is expected to lead to vastly extended coherence times. The coherence time represents essentially the lifetime of quantum informations, that is the time these encoded information “survive”. This key parameter is primarily determined by the spin-spin relaxation time T2, which is measured using Hahn-echo experiments in pulsed electron spin resonance measurements. Many complexes based on triaminoguanidines have been synthesized up to now allowing for the first time systematic studies concerning the impact of nuclear spins, orbital contributions and electronic structure on the coherence times of spin superpositions. Additional information is gained by electron-nuclear double resonance experiments, which allow for sensitive measurements of the electron spin distribution and thus contribute to a better understanding of molecule based quantum bits.
