Zusammenfassung der Projektergebnisse

The joint Indonesian-German-US American field campaign to lakes Matano and Towuti in summer 2010 resulted in the successful recovery of a suite of lake sediment cores and seismic reflection data from both lakes. Initial results imply that sediments of Lake Towuti provide a valuable record of past climate and ecosystem change at a terrestrial site in the centre of the Indo-Pacific Warm Pool. However, further analyses on the now available material need to be undertaken to refine preliminary interpretations. As one important outcome of the project, collaborations between Indonesian, German, US American, and Canadian partners, all working on these sites, have been established. This fruitful collaboration resulted in the common effort to establish a deep drilling project at Lake Towuti, and an ICDP workshop as well as numerous follow up ventures on the existing material. A continuation of the project is envisaged but requires additional funding to be applied for at national and international funding agencies.
