Project Details
Dynamics of lift generation (C01)
Subject Area
Fluid Mechanics
Term
from 2011 to 2019
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 133733460
In the second funding phase, investigations on the lift generation and its dynamics on the REF2 propeller-driven configuration revealed aerodynamic interference effects with the fuselage, which can cause unacceptable flight mechanical properties, especially for one engine inoperative at low speed conditions. By extending the utilization of circulation control from the high-lift system to control surfaces, suitable corrective means have been elaborated and demonstrated. During the third funding period, the previously used actuator disc model simulating the propeller and the unsteady interference effects shall be verified through resolved numerical simulations with propeller rotation. By incorporation of wing forward sweep, configura-tional deficiencies of REF-3 with UHBR engines shall be overcome. The resulting improved configuration variant shall then be comprehensively investigated with regard to its aerodynamic properties.
