Geophysical characterization of patterns in functional and structural soil properties and processes (B06)

Subject Area Geophysics
Soil Sciences
Term from 2011 to 2018
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 15232683

Field-scale patterns of functional and structural soil properties will be characterized based on data from complementary geophysical methods. EIT (electrical impedance tomography) and GPR (ground-penetrating radar) data are used to investigate root growth and activity in relation to soil water dynamics at the plot scale, while EMI (electromagnetic induction) and GPR measurements are used to characterize spatial and temporal soil property patterns up to the catchment scale. Based on the observed patterns, the conceptualization and parameterization in hydrological models used in the TR32 will be improved.
