Project Details
Core project 7: Arthropods and arthropod-related processes
Subject Area
Ecology and Biodiversity of Plants and Ecosystems
Term
since 2011
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 194004034
Within the framework of the core projects, Core Project 7 Arthropods continuously monitors the abundance and diversity of arthropod taxa and arthropod-related ecosystem processes, in forests and grasslands, including the new experiments in both habitats, and in arable field plots. Arthropods continues to coordinate the Biodiversity Exploratory Long-term Deadwood Experiment (BELongDead), and compiles and provides functional trait databases across different invertebrate taxa to facilitate trait analyses and syntheses. The long-term data of Arthropods are important for multiple synthesis efforts. The unique, highly replicated datasets from forests and grasslands will be increasingly used to analyze the combined role of climate and land use for the spatio-temporal dynamics of arthropod communities. The objectives of the Arthropods Core Project will be addressed in five work packages (WPs): WP1: to contribute to coordination and advice within the Biodiversity Exploratories, WP2: to monitor the abundance and diversity of arthropods in all grassland and forest EPs, in the joint multi-site experiments, and in the arable field plots, WP3: to monitor arthropod-mediated processes - predation, seed depletion, and dung decomposition, in grassland and forest, and wood decomposition in the BELongDead experiment, WP4: to integrate, explore, and synthesize data (the latter in cooperation with Core Project Synthesis) to contribute to an understanding of the consequences of the interaction between climate and land use for community assembly and biodiversity change, WP5: to engage in outreach and policy advice.
