EXC 1069: RESOLV (Ruhr Explores Solvation) - Verständnis und Design lösungsmittelabhängiger Prozesse
Zusammenfassung der Projektergebnisse
Das von RESOLV etablierte Forschungsökosystem Solvation Science ist in Europa und weltweit sichtbar. Fortschritte in Spektroskopie, Mikroskopie, synthetischen Methoden und Computersimulation haben eine neue Ära im Verständnis und der Beschreibung von Lösungsvorgängen eingeleitet. Solvation Science entwickelt sich aus inter- und transdisziplinären Kooperationen von Physikern mit Chemikern und Biologen, aber auch Material- und Neurowissenschaften. Seit dem Start von RESOLV 2012 war Solvation Science Hauptthema einer Reihe nationaler und internationaler Tagungen, so der Heraeus-Konferenz ‚Exploring Solvation Science‘ 2013, als Symposium auf der DPG-Frühjahrtagung 2014, auf dem 114. Jahrestreffen der Bunsengesellschaft 2015, dem 8. International Meeting of Biomolecules under Pressure 2015, dem 52. Annual Symposium of Theoretical Chemistry 2016; es gab zwei Sessions um Solvent Design bei der SAFT 2017 und ein Symposium bei der APS-Tagung im März 2017. RESOLV erfüllt damit seinen Anspruch, Solvation Science als ein Forschungsgebiet sui generis zu etablieren. Dies wird unterstrichen durch über 960 Publikationen in referierten Journalen, darunter 225 kooperative, durch 463 eingeladene Vorträge bei internationalen Konferenzen sowie durch 100 Auszeichnungen, darunter 14 ERC-Grants und 3 Leibnizpreise. RESOLV hat neue, dauerhafte Strukturen aufgebaut: (i) einen neuen, 3.000 m2 Forschungsbau, das Zentrum für Solvation Science (ZEMOS); (ii) neun neue Professuren in Solvation Science; (iii) die Graduate School Solvation Science mit 154 Doktorierenden seit 2013; (iv) Unterstützung von NachwuchswissenschafterInnen: NachwuchsgruppenleiterInnen wurden volle akademische Privilegien verliehen (einschl. eigenständiger Betreuung von Doktorierenden) und sie erhielten eigene Budgets. RESOLV bot ein maßgeschneidertes Konzept zur Karriereunterstützung an. Von den 14 NachwuchsgruppenleiterInnen haben im Berichtszeitraum 13 Professuren erhalten.; (v) Gleichstellung und Familie: RESOLV-eigene Maßnahmen trugen zum Entstehen einer familienfreundlichen Umgebung bei, erhöhten die Diversität im akademischen Bereich und unterstützten Frauen in ihren Führungsaufgaben; (vi) Die ‚International Faculty Solvation Science‘: dadurch wurden ForscherInnen auf allen Karrierestufen Teil eines internationalen Konsortiums renommierter Arbeitsgruppen an über 20 Institutionen weltweit. RESOLV gründete das Schwesterinstitut CalSolv an der UC Berkeley und war Gastgeber für sieben Humboldt- und Bessel-PreisträgerInnen; (vii) Öffentlichkeitsarbeit: Eine RESOLV-Wanderausstellung und spezielle Experimente führten SchülerInnen aller Jahrgangsstufen in die Solvatationsforschung ein. Solvation Science war das Schwerpunktthema der 2/2017-Ausgabe von Chemie in Unserer Zeit, dem führenden deutschsprachigen Magazin für ChemielehrerInnen und IndustriechemikerInnen; (viii) TranSOLV: Ein Ort zur Koordinierung und Beschleunigung des wirksamen Transfers wissenschaftlicher Erkenntnisse in industrielle Anwendungen.
