EXC 1069: RESOLV (Ruhr Explores Solvation) - Understanding and Design of Solvent Controlled Processes
Subject Area
Physical Chemistry
Term
from 2012 to 2018
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 194650850
The main goal of the Cluster of Excellence is a bottom-up approach to solvation. Most chemical reactions, important industrial processes and practically all biological processes take place in a liquid-state environment. The Cluster of Excellence will develop a unifying framework to probe, describe and influence structure, dynamics and kinetics of complex solvation phenomena at the molecular level. Solvent molecules, for example water, are considered as functional units to be employed as active species in solvent-mediated and solvent-controlled processes rather than being just passive spectators. A profound understanding of solvation processes is essential for stimulating major advances in emerging key technologies, such as green chemistry, to avoid environmental hazards, increase energy efficiency and understand biological functions.
