Oxaphosphirane metal complexes: synthesis, transformation and applications

Subject Area Inorganic Molecular Chemistry - Synthesis and Characterisation
Term from 2011 to 2022
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 195154098

In the prolongation period of this research project, we want to continue with the comparative study of oxaphosphirane and epoxide chemistry, whereby transition metal-free routes shall be investigated in addition to the successful system Li/Cl-phosphinidenoid complex/carbonyl derivative. With respect to reactivity studies the work program is focused on the following three problems: decomplexation (A), carbenoid oxaphosphirane complexes (B), and ring-opening vs. ring-expansion reactions (C); B and C represent preliminary studies for polymerization reactions. In well established international collaborations, flame retardance testings shall be performed together with polymer analyses (with D.P. Gates/Canada), and reaction pathways elucidated via theoretical methods (with A. Espinosa Ferao/Spain). The latter will enable to describe structure reactivity relationships of oxaphosphiranes.
