Pragmatics and Semantics in Social Tagging Systems II

Subject Area Security and Dependability, Operating-, Communication- and Distributed Systems
Term from 2011 to 2020
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 196648487

We propose to continue the line of research conducted in the current project Pragmatics and Semantics in Social Tagging Systems that aims to gain deeper insights into possible relations between pragmatics and semantics in web-based information systems. We will base our work on the results produced by this project and extend it along several dimensions. (i) We want to extend methods for measuring semantics by going beyond heuristic-based approaches and focusing on techniques that are based on machine learning. (ii) While we have investigated pragmatic aspects predominately by studying user motivation, in the future we want to extend our investigations by studying navigation using Markov models. Based on these extensions, we want to study further interrelationships between pragmatics and semantics in web-based information systems by developing integrated machine learning approaches.
