Inverted non-fullerene organic solar cells: Charge carrier extraction and interface characterization

Subject Area Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
Electronic Semiconductors, Components and Circuits, Integrated Systems, Sensor Technology, Theoretical Electrical Engineering
Term from 2012 to 2022
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 196886395

For the second phase of our project planned to last another two years, we plan to tackle two topics in continuation of the work begun of phase one:1) Metal-oxide electron extraction layers with systematically varied levels of electrical doping.2) Plasmonically sensitized electron extraction layers as a complementary approach to electrical doping. For both, we intend to unravel the energetic line-up with fullerene acceptors using synchrotron photoelectron spectroscopy and to correlate these results to the characteristics of devices (solar cells and dedicated unipolar devices). We will explicitly study both C60 and C70 (and PC60BM PC70BM) in order to test the applicability of our results to a broader range of donor/acceptor photoactive systems.
