The success of our integrative and multidisciplinary approach for focussing on the adrenal microenvironment in health and disease benefits from efficient management of resources; this includes availability to all members of state-of-the-art analytical and model system platforms as well as collections and sharing of patient data and human materials. As evident from the first funding period, Z-project based central administration of CRU resources has greatly facilitated scientific progress and close collaborative efforts among both senior and junior members of the consortium. It has further accommodated mentorship of our junior scientific staff and promoted equal opportunities by supporting the careers of both junior and female scientists as well as encouraging a familyfriendly working atmosphere. This has been accomplished through a network of administrative and support staff, Gerok physician-scientist positions, child care services and training opportunities, including organised seminar and lecture series and exchanges of personnel. Such networks to support career development, enhance collaborative synergisms and accelerate research efforts have provided the critical infrastructure for comprehensive focus of research on the adrenal microenvironment in health and disease. With these structures in place and maturation of our state-of-the-art toolboxes for analytical methods, clinical studies and model systems, we are now well poised to take full advantage of our unique platforms in the second CRU funding phase, with further plans to strengthen collaborations with others outside of our own Institution.
