Synthesis and properties of self-healing polymers and nanocomposites derived from cellulose

Subject Area Materials Engineering
Term from 2011 to 2015
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 202623589

Final Report Year 2015

Final Report Abstract

The aim of synthesizing re-mendable materials from liquid crystalline cellulose derivatives was fulfilled. A broad variety of cellulosic dienes with optimized properties was synthesized. The self-healing ability was achieved by the Diels-Alder (DA) and the retro Diels-Alder (rDA) reaction between these dienes and bismaleimides. New methods were found to monitor these reactions. A self-healing survey gave proof of the re-mendability by healing a crack in a sample pellet.
