Project Details
Inscribed. Reflexions of Material Text Cultures in the Literature of the 12th and 17th Century (C05)
Subject Area
German Medieval Studies (Medieval German Literature)
Term
from 2011 to 2023
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 178035969
The project examines socio-cultural practices pertaining to script-bearing artefacts, as they can be observed in medieval and early modern narratives. At the centre will be narrative fictional (‘literary’) texts from the 12th to the 17th century that refer to (fictional) inscriptions. Aside from the as comprehensive as possible collection of the thousands of instances in European Literature, the main focus is on the imaginary dimension, that is on forms of fantastic scripturality that are hardly or not at all conceivable in reality.
