This project provides indicators for longitudinal research on regional partner market conditions in Germany. Using ministerial regional population data, indicators for the partner market have been developed that are appropriate to theoretical concepts. With these indicators, the project has described the partner market over the life-course as well as differences between birth cohorts and regions. The partner market indicators have been merged to micro data (German Socio-Economic Panel and the Panel Study of Intimate Relationships and the Family) to analyze the effects of partner market conditions on the incidence and prevalence of couple relationships and singles, the way of searching for a partner, assortative mating with respect to age, education and ethnicity, and the stability of partnership unions. In the final period, research will focus on analyses about (1) the influence of the partner market on power, conflict, and the division of labour within couple relationships, (2) on attitudes about gender roles, and on (3) the institutionalization of the relationship and fertility. Further, the project will (4) organize continuous updates of the indicators and the (5) provision for secondary analyses. With this end, the project will (6) produce the indicators for 2014 and (7) a user-friendly documentation.
