Process Design Strategies for Advanced Carbon Allotropes and their In-Suspension Analytics (A03)

Subject Area Mechanical Process Engineering
Term from 2012 to 2023
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 182849149

The aim of project A3 is the design of scalable processes for carbon allotrope production with focus on scale-up of the solvothermal synthesis of carbon dots. Moreover, advanced chromatographic methods for purification of carbon dots from side products will be established. In addition, the optoelectronic properties of the purified carbon dots will be investigated in cooperation with project partners in the SFB. The structure of the carbon dots will be investigated in-depth by a newly developed Electrospray Ionisation-Differential Mobility Analysis-Mass Spectrometry. Process technologies for carbon allotrope separation and thin film formation for functional applications are also important aspects. Our already strong toolbox for in-suspension analytics of carbon allotropes will be further enhanced by establishing an additional analytical ultracentrifuge with fluorescence/Raman detectors and offered to project partners within the SFB.
