Development of microsystem enhanced machine tool structures for lightweight and accuracy optimised (LEG2O) frames (B04)

Subject Area Metal-Cutting and Abrasive Manufacturing Engineering
Term from 2012 to 2016
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 199828953

Main goal of the research programme is the realisation of a three-axis milling machine tool frame on the basis of modular LEG²O technology. Therefore, the developed LEG²O architecture has to be extended. To specify the requirements for module development, the concept will be evaluated with the focus on milling machine tools. Afterwards, the extensions of smart and active modules will be designed and technology will be integrated in the building set. A methodology supporting the set-up of the LEG²O machine tool will be developed and then be used to configure the three-axis mill-ing machine tool frame demonstrator for proof of concept. In order to provide a life-cycle oriented adaption of microsystem technology based functionalities, the developed class of wireless sensors will be modularised in its core functionalities of distributed sensing, data processing and communication.
