Strategic development of corporate knowledge with knowledge maps

Subject Area Engineering Design, Machine Elements, Product Development
Term from 2012 to 2018
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 211466260

Knowledge is a driver of innovation and is a crucial competitive factor for technological companies. As such, it plays an important role for the company's future strategy. However, knowledge is rarely considered a factor in strategic planning. One reason for this is the challenge of eliciting and representing company-internal and company-external knowledge that results from the cooperation with other companies. Therefore, in this project, the knowledge maps which were developed in the first part of the project for representing knowledge of single employees will be extended: A method for acquiring and representing an entire knowledge area that spans the departments of a company and cooperating companies will be developed. The acquired knowledge structure serves as an input for the development of scenarios in conjunction with further company-internal and -external factors. Based on these scenarios, company strategies for developing relevant knowledge areas are developed. A method is developed to deduce future knowledge structures from these knowledge strategies. The current and the future knowledge structures are compared with previously developed and adapted approaches to identify actions to be taken. This analysis serves as a basis for a method to select concrete measures for the company's knowledge development.
