German BioImaging is the German national network of imaging core facilities. Since its establishment in 2010, it has developed into a very lively organisation with a high national and international visibility. During the first funding period within the Programme for Core Facilities and Networks of the DFG, German BioImaging has initiated several activities of interest to the German bioimaging community. These concerned among others the interaction and knowledge exchange within the community, the training of facility staff and users, and the definition of best practices for the operation of imaging core facilities. German BioImaging also served as the common representation of the German bioimaging community towards funding agencies and political institutions. The most important instrument of German BioImaging is its website, which is set up as a Wiki for shared editing by community members. German BioImaging applies herewith for a second funding period of two years. The most successful and requested programmes of the network will be continued during this second phase. A limited number of new activities will be initiated. Major aim of the second funding period will be to transform German BioImaging into a self-sustaining organisation.
