Final Report Abstract

The aim of this project was to develop and analyse different genome-base models to estimate the growth and productivity of summer barley under water deficit. Morphological and physiological traits of summer barley was investigated and the associated QTLs were investigated under water shortage. The effect of water shortage on traits such as leaf elongation rate, stomatal conductance, leaf water potential and transpiration rate was investigated using the linear plateau model. QTL associated with parameters of the linear plateau model was found. It appeared in most of the cases that there was no significant markers for breakpoints. However, since a good correlation was found between the breakpoint and the intercept, the intercept could was derived from intercept values. More than 120 QTLs was found for 37 investigated traits during both vegetative and generative phase experiments. To quantify the leaf dry mass production and, a transpiration model was coupled to a leaf growth model, based on QTL associated with each of the phenotypic trait. The model is not finish so far, since QTLs identified for GXT interaction need to be included in the model and the correlation of osmotic adjustment, Proline content, water soluble carbohydrate and the osmotic potential with traits related to traits quantifying the dynamics of the plant response under water deficit.
