Towards nanoarcsecond astrometry: modeling of light propagation in the gravitational field of the Solar system

Subject Area Astrophysics and Astronomy
Term from 2012 to 2015
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 221020023

In the view of future developments in the field of high-accuracy astrometry it is important to understand how relativistic models of light propagation can reach the accuracy of 1 nanoarcsecond. First steps towards a consistent general-relativistic theory of light propagation with an accuracy of 1 nanoarcsecond will be done. A theory of light propagation in the gravitational field of moving bodies of arbitrary shape and structure will be formulated in the first post-Minkowskian approximation. The post-post-Minkowskian effects will be assessed and, at least partially, investigated.
